    Victoria Yuqin Ma

    FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

    Victoria is a sophomore at The Harker School in San Jose, California. Before coming to The Harker School, Victoria spent time studying in China. She is passionate about political science and public policy. In her free time, she likes to go on hikes in the mountains near her home, paint paintings, and play basketball.

    Maggie is a sophomore at Mountain View High School in Mountain View, California. She has always cherished the traditions and culture that have connected her family. She loves ballet and art.

    Hannah is a freshman at The Harker School in San Jose, California. Before coming to The Harker School, she was at Harrow International School in Beijing, China. In her free time, she likes to learn more about chemistry and biology, dance, and play with her cat.

    Léa is a freshman at The Harker School in San Jose, California. She has lived in Hong Kong and San Jose, spending the majority of her school life attending international schools. Multilingual, Léa has Chinese, French, and Czech heritage. When she has time to spare, Léa enjoys fencing, camping, playing with her dog and participating in theater productions.

    Jennifer is a freshman at the Harker School in San Jose, California, enjoying ballet, reading and music in her free time. Growing up as both an international school student and a public school student in Shanghai, China, the clashes between the two cultures have inspired her and cultivated her interest in exploring the social sciences.

    Isabelle is a freshman at The Harker School in San Jose, California. A good singer, she loves to dance and spend time with her friends in her free time.

    Julia Hu is a freshman at Harrow International School in Beijing, China. She is passionate about looking at comparisons between different cultures and how they fit together into humanity.

    Jenna is a sophomore in Early College, a program through Rodriguez High School in Fairfield, CA. She has been interested in art, but has recently started taking it a bit more seriously. Her other interests include books, music and her pets.

    Yasmin is a junior at The Harker School in San Jose, California. In her free time, she likes to dance, read, and spend time with her friends. She is excited to share her passion for law and justice and explore how culture affects one’s interpretation of justice.

    Ethan is a freshman at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California He is passionate about teaching and learning from others and is excited to lead workshops at Culturator.

    Mumtaz is a sophomore from Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Passionate about cultures, law, and humanitarian aid, she is an aspiring writer dedicated to amplifying marginalized voices and celebrating diversity.

    AUTHOR & WORKSHOP LEADER

    Jason Shim is a Korean-American junior at The Harker School in San Jose, California, passionate about history, politics, and international relations. In his free time, he pursues musical theater, public speaking, and student government. As a columnist for Culturator, he harbors a particular zest for investigating the varying spice levels of the world's political cultures — the shared assumptions within societies dictating their civic behavior.

    FEATURED ARTIST

    Emily is a junior at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California. She is an aspiring artist who hopes to go into the entertainment industry and share her ideas and stories with others. She indulges in a variety of artistic disciplines, from her traditional and philosophical work to digital character designs and illustrations, even venturing out to mediums like photo editing, writing, and more. Emily's passion for her own work extends to others' as well, and she greatly enjoys understanding the perspectives of others through their art. When she's not creating, you can usually find her talking to friends or playing Hades.

  • Gloria Tang

    FEATURED ARTIST

    Gloria is a senior at Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore. She is a self-taught artist who picked up painting as a hobby during March of 2020, as COVID-19 drove everyone indoors. Painting became an avenue of catharsis, and allowed her not only to express herself, but also to process complex emotions in a way that felt less foreign. Above all, however, art has transformed into a love language she uses to express her gratitude towards the life she has come to love in a tangible way.

    Marissa D’Zio is a high school artist at Eastlake High School in Seattle, Washington. She finds herself constantly immersed in the artistic scene. Whether it’s through public murals in Sammamish, classroom posters, or personal artistic explorations, Marissa’s passion for art shines through in every stroke. Mimicking the fusion of traditional Chinese expectations and the American diverse cultural evolution that is her identity, Marissa works to fuse seemingly unrelated details to touch on a new hidden meaning.

    Laura is a sophomore at Charles Best Secondary School in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. She aspires to become an illustrator in the future and greatly values her upbringing and culture in China. In her free time, Laura’s either inhaling her favourite food or playing brawl stars!

    Getzamary Solano is a senior at Westchester Academy for International Studies. With a passion for the inner workings of our biological makeup and pursuing artistic expression, she aims to create artworks that initiate conversations about individual identity and values.

    Pranali is a junior at Centennial High School in Frisco, Texas. She is extremely interested in learning about all things neuroscience and cherishes her Indian heritage deeply. In her spare time, she enjoys partaking in Bollywood dance, spending quality time with friends and family, and volunteering at the local senior home.

  • Adrija Acharya

    AUTHOR & WORKSHOP LEADER

    Adrija is a Year 10 student at Yatsen Secondary School in Suva, Fiji. She loves reading literature and watching films as well as doing chem and maths. She is excited to write about Pacific traditions and cultures and the Melanesian/Polynesian community as a whole as a person who grew up in it, as well as the effects she felt as a Bengali person far away from her homeland, Kolkata, India.

    Nmesoma is a sophomore at St. Joan of Arc High School in Ontario, Canada. She loves music, arts, photography, and reading. In her free time, she is happy to be a part of the Culturator community and meet more people from across the world through publication.

    Shaurya is a Year 10 student at Yatsen Secondary School in Suva, Fiji. He is passionate about law and spends his free time playing reading books and coding. As someone who has lived most of his life overseas than his native home, he wants to connect with peers of the publication team.

    Erin is a sophomore at County Prep High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her artwork has previously been featured in TeenInk Magazine and at a local exhibition. She is also a podcast addict who loves birds, jewelry-making, and crochet.

    Nishita is a senior at Swami Vivekananda College in Nadi, Fiji. A dancer and an artist, she is eager to impart her love of fostering individuality and her enthusiasm for learning about various social sciences through writing for Culturator.

    Born in Hong Kong, Carrie is a 15-year-old student at the ELCHK Lutheran Academy in Hong Kong, currently studying in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, with the aim of succeeding in an artistic and creative career in the future. A motto she lives by is "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time," and the first thing she wants you to know is that she's happy to try out all kinds of new things, and reach out to all kinds of new people.

    Mohammed is a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia. He is passionate about architecture and art. Being a self-taught artist, he enjoys painting random colorful things, especially buildings.

  • Gabriela Chávez Steinmetz

    ARTIST

    Gabriela is a Mexican-American sophomore at Rye High School in Rye, New York. She loves painting and creative writing in her free time. She is most passionate about spreading awareness towards environmental sustainability, mental healthcare access, and gender inequality.

    Ee Lynn is a Year 9 student of Stella Maris International School, Malaysia. She enjoys textile crafts, doodling, music, tennis, running and good reads that send her spiraling down a rabbit hole (especially The Hunger Games <3) plus all things matcha.

    Maryam is a high school senior at Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove, California. In her free time, she draws, paints, or reads. Generally, she has a thirst for knowledge, especially for mathmatics. She is also passionate about the idea of bridging gaps and creating an environment of understanding.

    Saanvi is a high-schooler at Pathways School Noida in Noida, India. She is passionate about visual arts, more specifically painting. Along with that, she loves product designing and listening to music. She also loves to do voluntary work to help bring change!

    Skanda is a sophomore student at The Hindu Senior Secondary School in Chennai, India. Passionate about creating art and learning about business, economics, and current affairs, he has a particular knack for addressing pressing social themes through his artworks.

    Lea is a sophomore at Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. She enjoys reading, making shirts, traveling, and ocean life. As a self-taught artist, she enjoys acrylic painting and sculpting. She volunteers often in her community and is passionate about spreading awareness about inequalities in education.

    Isabella is a Year 11 student in Kinabalu International School in Sabah, Malaysia. She has all sorts of interests in art, theatre, science and sport. She is mixed English-Kadazan and enjoys playing basketball or crocheting in her free time but she is also passionate about science and the future.

    Hayne is a sophomore at The American School in Japan in Tokyo, Japan. Before moving to Japan, she attended international and public schools in other countries, including Korea and the Philippines. Hayne is a self-taught artist who enjoys creating both digital and traditional art in her free time. She also loves cats, pasta, and watching history documentaries and video essays about film, media, and current society.

    Karen is a sophomore Chinese-Canadian student, who is pursuing a career in healthcare. During her spare time, she enjoys creating art and photographing nature. She believes in the importance of art’s ability to portray the beauty of life from an artist’s perspective.

    Aalain Harum is a sophomore at Ischool High at University Park in Houston, Texas. She is a passionate writer who loves to adventure in the creative world of arts. Doodling since childhood, she has found herself painting abstracts of mental health, oppression, and history.

  • Fia Inamdar

    Fia is a Year 10 student studying at Kodaikanal International School. She is an accomplished martial artist with a 3rd-dan black belt in Taekwondo. Fia is deeply passionate about biology, neuroscience, psychology, and mathematics and is always striving to broaden her knowledge in these areas.

    Erika is a junior at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California. She enjoys creative expression in all areas of her life and is interested in social sciences. In her free time, she likes to travel and learn more about cultures outside her own.

  • Eshitha Rao

    ARTIST

    Eshitha Rao is a senior in Concord, Massachusetts, and will soon be an undergraduate art student. She frequently reads novels and sketches out storyboards for various original comics in her spare time. Her main goal is to become a comic illustrator or animation director to produce more South Asian-centric stories to create more entertaining media for my community, as our stories have been excluded from mainstream media.
